Janelle Nelson
Vice President, Portfolio Analyst

Janelle Nelson has been a Portfolio Analyst with RBC Wealth Management’s Portfolio Advisory Group since 1993. An industry professional since 1984, she has been with the firm since 1991, and was previously affiliated with several Wall Street firms, including Citigroup (Smith Barney) and Morgan Stanley. She has been broadly quoted on the markets in local and national media, and is a popular speaker for individual investor events. Janelle is part of a team that actively manages two equity income strategies for the firm, the Guided Portfolio: Prime Income and Guided Portfolio: Dividend Growth. Within the team, she takes a strategic focus on non-traditional cash-flow securities and energy-related companies. Janelle holds a B.A. from the University of Minnesota in political science and economics.

Vice President – Wealth Managers Initiatives Senior Manager

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Certified Public Accountant, Dean provides individuals, families, business owners and executives with comprehensive wealth management planning services to address the issues most common to high net worth families. Dean has been serving the needs of high net worth clients since 1989. Dean is personally responsible for developing some of RBC’s proprietary analysis tools, such as RBC Retirement Funding Sensitivity and RBC Retirement Income Illustration. Dean graduated from Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota in 1981 with Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting and finance. In addition to his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Certified Public Accountant designations, he maintains Series 7 and 66 licenses.

John R. Whalen, Jr.
Vice President – Wealth Management Consultant

Before joining RBC Wealth Management in 2007, John spent 21 years in the financial services industry, holding executive positions in firms involved in retirement planning and fixed income portfolio management and trading. John has in-depth experience helping meet the unique needs of high net worth clients, with a concentration on asset allocation issues, strategic fixed-income allocations and retirement planning. To help enable clients to convert accumulated wealth to income, John employs a variety of techniques, such as structuring systematic withdrawals based on income-and-growth strategies; creating efficient bond portfolio structures; and developing annuity strategies. In John’s work with Financial Advisors, he brings a practical understanding of a wide range of wealth management issues facing clients.

Bill Ringham
Vice President - Senior Wealth Strategies Consultant, Estate and High Net Worth

Before joining RBC Wealth Management in 2000, Bill spent 20 years in the financial services industry. Bill graduated from St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and from William Mitchell College of Law, in St. Paul, Minnesota, with a JD. In addition, he is Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and maintains securities licenses, series 7 and 66. Bill works with RBC Wealth Management Financial Advisors to develop appropriate wealth management solutions for clients with a focus on wealth transfer, including trust and estate planning, business succession planning, charitable planning and stock option planning. He works with clients’ attorneys, accountants and other professionals to implement strategies that meet clients’ financial objectives. Bill frequently leads seminars and educational presentations for clients and groups on a variety of wealth strategies topics, as well as moderates classes for Financial Advisors as part of RBC Wealth Management’s Accredited Wealth Manager program.

Scott Rogneby
Vice President – Retirement Plan Consultant

Scott has been with RBC Wealth Management since 1996 and has 11 years of previous experience in the financial services industry. Scott received his B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota, and holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary designation. As part of his responsibilities, Scott consults with corporations and non-profit groups of all sizes to help develop strategies and solutions for their ERISA and non-ERISA retirement plan needs. He has in-depth experience in analyzing organizations’ retirement plan needs and recommending appropriate vehicles, including 401(k), profit-sharing and defined benefit plans, and SIMPLE and SEP IRAs. Scott incorporates his extensive research regarding retirement plan providers to better assist RBC Wealth Management Financial Advisors in servicing clients’ retirement plans. Scott is involved in the creation and maintenance of investment policy statements, investment monitoring, plan design and portfolio consulting.

Paul Fee, CLU, CHFC
Vice President – Wealth Planning and Insurance Consultant

Paul has been with RBC Wealth Management since 1997. Previously, he spent 10 years in the financial services industry. Paul received his B.A. degree from St. Mary’s University. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations. As part of his responsibilities, Paul works with RBC Wealth Management Financial Advisors to develop retirement plans for businesses and succession plans for families. Paul specializes in employing insurance-based strategies and solutions to help clients achieve their wealth transfer goals. Paul also works closely with clients’ financial and legal advisers to establish appropriate wealth planning and insurance strategies.
