In a last-minute cliff-hanger, the Congress came together on New Year’s Day to pass the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. For most taxpayers, the Act extends the Bush-era tax cuts scheduled to expire at the end of 2012. Plus it reinstates certain beneficial provisions that had previously expired in 2011.
